Mead Angels
The Mead Angels (MA) is a non-profit group that was started at Mead High School as a way to provide support, encouragement and hope to the greater MHS community. Examples of this take many forms, but often include cards, tokens, gift cards, certificates for services, meals, words, and much more. The MA operates anonymously and meets weekly to discuss the needs and issues affecting Mead students, staff and their families. Additionally, the MA celebrates the various accomplishments of Mead High staff and students.
The MA is funded in a variety of ways including staff donations, participation in various fundraisers such as bake sales, raffles, and donations from the community. If you would like more information, please contact us at meadangels@gmail.com .
We wish to thank the staff, students and parents who purchased a ticket for our Valentine’s Day basket raffle at parent teacher conference February 3, 2010. Because of your generosity, we added $128.00 to our fund!
MHS night lead custodian, Mike Miller was the winner of the basket.

Information from SVVSD
The district is asking for our input regarding the state budget deficit.
The first is an online survey concerning the impact of the state budget deficit on our District. For maximum reach, we’re asking for the help of all schools to communicate this information to as many stakeholders as possible. We’re looking for input from parents, students, staff members, businesses, and anyone else who has helpful suggestions on how to alleviate the situation at hand.
The second posting is a link to a video of Rep. Jack Pommer’s recent presentation explaining the deficit. The Pommer presentation may be a good resource for parents to understand the cause of the deficit and its impact on public education.

MHS Girls Soccer Winter/Off-season Training
All girls interested in spring soccer are invited to the December kick-arounds in the small gym. We will play this Wednesday at 7 p.m. and on Wednesday, December 16th at 7 p.m. Bring shoes appropriate for the wood surface. If you have a ball, bring it. If not, we will have one there for you. Questions? Contact Coach Reitzig. See you there!
The main goal for winter training is to build up your basic level of fitness and to prepare yourself for soccer-specific preseason training. Here are suggested activities that you can use for winter training.
Aerobic: This builds up your general endurance. Distance runs of between 25-40 minutes; swimming of 30-40 minutes; riding a bike for 30-40 minutes. The key is to keep your heart rate up for at least 25-30 minutes. Have a 5-minute warm-up and cool down, and don't forget to stretch.
Anaerobic: This builds up your ability to sprint, change direction and win in 1 v. 1 situations.
Shuttle runs: vary the distances, from 20 - 50 yards). Do 4-5 sets of 10 sprints. Sprint the distance, then jog slowly back. Sprint again. When done with one set, rest until you've recovered. Then repeat.
Jump-roping: jump for 3-4 minutes at a brisk pace. Then rest for a minute or do some strength-training exercises. Repeat. Do 10-12 sets of this.
Strength: Do push-ups, sit-ups and pull-ups in sets of three. Find out how many of each you can do, then try to increase that number over time. Bench presses, curls and lifts are also exercises you can do easily on your own, if you have the equipment.
Ball skills: Juggling is probably the easiest and best thing to do to help you improve your feel for the ball. Additionally, find a wall or a partner to pass with. If you can, find a futsal or indoor team to play with.
